Treating Acne with DermaFrac™
In honor of Acne Awareness Month, let’s talk about DermaFrac™, one of the latest technologies in acne treatment.
Acne is a disease that involves the oil glands of the skin. While it is not dangerous, it can leave physical and emotional scars on a person. The skin has pores (tiny openings) that connect to oil glands located under the skin’s surface. The glands are connected to the pores via follicles – small canals. Sebum, an oily liquid, is produced by these glands. The sebum carries dead skin cells through the follicles to the surface of the skin. A small hair grows through the follicle out of the pore opening. Pimples grow when these follicles get blocked with dead skin cells and excessive sebum. Acne develops on the face, back, chest, shoulders and neck when follicles get clogged and infected with bacteria.
So with a million acne treatments out there, how do you know that DermaFrac™ is an effective way to accomplish your clear skin goals?
DermaFrac™ involves the use of a sterile roller comprised of a series of fine, sharp needles to puncture the skin. The needling device is “rolled” over the surface of the face to create many microscopic channels deep into the dermis of the skin, which stimulates your own body to produce new collagen. This treatment improves your skin by inducing the increased production of collagen, facilitating natural repair and growth, making the skin stronger and thicker. The new collagen fills depressed scars and wrinkles from the bottom up lifting the depression so they are level with the surrounding skin. So it’s even a helpful treatment to take away those acne scars that are left on the face from previous breakouts.
Not only does DermaFrac™ create these channels into the dermis, but it also infuses effective serums formulated with skin treating ingredients to resolve certain skin conditions. The DermaFrac™ Acne Solution is formulated with two active acne fighting ingredients – salicylic acid and lactic acid.
Lactic acid is a natural alpha hydroxy acid found in milk and is used as a gentle exfoliating agent to rejuvenate the skin. It works to remove dead skin cells without disrupting the natural moisturizing factor (NMF) of the skin. Lactic acid will exfoliate the outer layer of the skin, increase collagen production, and loosen the bond between dead skin cells to reduce the forming of whiteheads and blackheads.
Salicylic acid helps breakdown blackheads and whiteheads, reduces shedding of cells that line the follicles of the oil glands, and treats inflammation and swelling. It causes the epidermis to shed skin easily, prevents pores from becoming blocked while allowing room for new healthy cells to grow, and neutralizes bacteria within the pores to prevent breakouts.
Consult with your esthetician on a skin care treatment routine featuring DermaFrac™ and how it can effectively work to heal current acne breakouts and reduce the risk for future breakout with a combination of in clinic treatments and at home care.
